However, anxiety disorder is experienced very differently to the normal anxiety that we all feel. Individuals who experience anxiety disorder may respond to things and situations with fear and dread and can cause individuals to avoid situations that trigger or worsen their symptoms.
There are many types of anxiety disorders, for example, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, social anxiety disorder and separation anxiety disorder.
As with most mental health condition, they have unique characteristics, however, majority of individuals respond positively to psychotherapy and medication. The most common type of psychotherapy used to help individuals with anxiety disorder is cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).
Many people often confuse fear and anxiety. A simple way to distinguish them is that fear is an emotional response to a present threat, while anxiety is the anticipation of a future one.
