Behavioural changes simply refer to a shift in the way someone acts or behaves. For example, instead of staying in bed and scrolling on the phone, the behavioural change could be to get up and go for a walk. Or giving up smoking is classed as a behavioural change.
There are many reasons why an individual might choose to make changes to their life. It could be for health reasons or financial reasons.
Through therapy people can explore the kind of changes they want to adopt and then work with the therapist to make the change. Sometimes we become stuck in our own patterns and cannot see our way out of it. This is where working with a skilled therapist or coach can help bridge that gap to behavioural changes.
Simply put, behavioural changes often involve becoming more aware of our habits, then understanding why we do what we do. Next is to practice new ways of responding, it’s very much akin to building a new muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it gets.
Examples of behavioural changes we support at Samya:
- From overwhelm to balance: Learning to set boundaries and say “no” without the guilt, reducing stress and anxiety.
- From avoidance to action: Overcoming procrastination by building small habits that support motivation and confidence.
- From self-criticism to self-compassion: Challenging negative self-talk and building a kinder, more supportive inner dialogue that boosts self-worth.
If you feel that there are some habits that are keeping you from moving forward, then feel free to reach out to any of our therapists or coaches who will support you in making positive changes.
